**Start Using Your New Trezor**

The official starting point for all new Trezor hardware wallets is [**Trezor.io/start**](http://Trezor.io/start). This portal is the only legitimate source for initializing your device and downloading the necessary companion software. Following the official steps ensures your device is secure from the moment it is unboxed.

**How to Use This Guide**

1. **Download Trezor Suite**\
   For the best experience and highest level of security against phishing, it is recommended to download the **Trezor Suite desktop application** rather than using the web version. The desktop app provides a standalone environment capable of advanced privacy features like Tor integration and, in the future, full node support . You can also choose to continue in your browser if you prefer a quick start.
2. **Install the Application**\
   Once the download is complete, install the desktop application on your computer. If you opted for the web version, you can skip the installation step and proceed directly to connecting your device.
3. **Set Up Your Trezor Device**\
   Connect your Trezor hardware wallet to your computer using the provided USB cable. The Trezor Suite will guide you through the initialization process. This involves installing the latest firmware (which is required for new devices), creating a new wallet, and generating your recovery seed. The entire setup process typically takes about **15 minutes** . During this step, you will be prompted to write down your recovery seed phrase on the provided cards—this is the single most critical step for securing your assets.
